Brent East
Constituency profile
No electoral outcome in Brent East is now predictable.
Labour have only a small percentage to pull back at a general election, but the Liberal Democrats now have the momentum, the incumbency factor and a valuable bridgehead in North London.
It is also significant that nearly two-thirds of the electorate failed to vote in the by-election.
The shock waves from the by-election will have a crucial effect on national politics and it could, conceivably, mark the beginning of the end of New Labour’s all-conquering ascendancy.
