Constituency profile

This seat was a Labour gain in 1997 and the Government seems to have retained enough popularity at the moment to keep it that way.

Without a major Conservative revival, or a reaction from the electorate to the deselection of their MP, a dramatic change in voting patterns seems unlikely, but it may be interesting to watch this constituency at the election after next.

Some minor boundary changes are expected by then, although they are unlikely to be of major electoral significance.
