With a majority of over 18,000, one would usually assume that an incumbent was assured of re-election.

However, with his change in party designation, it will be an interesting contest to follow at the next general election.

In reality, a victory for the DUP will be a body-blow for the Ulster Unionists and would perhaps signify a permanent re-alignment of unionist politics.
