Meriden may never return to its 'very safe' status of the 1980s for the Conservatives with attitudinal changes altering the political landscape of the whole Midlands region.

However, if Labour could not get the votes in and beyond the significant pockets of deprivation in the seat to capture it in 1997 or 2001, it seems unlikely that they will in the foreseeable future.
