Constituency profile

Plaid Cymru will have been encouraged by maintaining their electoral majority in the 2003 National Assembly for Wales elections.

It suggested that they had arrested the growth of the Labour vote during the years of Labour's electoral dominance UK-wide.

Holding the seat so easily in what many commentators suggested was a terrible election for Plaid Cymru augurs well for Hywel Williams holding the seat at the next general election.
