Liverpool Garston
Constituency profile
The Liverpool Garston constituency is safely Labour and looks set to be for some time to come.
However, as the people here get used to voting Liberal Democrat in local elections (17 of the 21 council seats are held by Lib Dems), it may be that they make the break and vote Lib Dem at national level.
It seems unlikely now; but as the people of Liverpool get used to being controlled by a Liberal Democrat town hall, it may be that, should the 'third' party threaten a national breakthrough, the people of Liverpool might just come over to them on a national level.
For now it seems that Maria Eagle and her successors can hold the national constituencies while their party languishes at the local level.
Whichever way the votes go, it can safely be said that Liverpool, despite its decline, is still as fascinating a political city as ever.
