Thanks to the differing fortunes of both parties nationally, the constituency of Rochford and Southend East is now a two-horse race, with the Liberal Democrats trailing in third place.

It would, however, take a disastrous substitution for Sir Teddy Taylor to see the Conservatives lose their deep-seated grip on this constituency.
