The Liberal Democrats may have caused a major surprise in 1993, but it would be much more of a major surprise and a long-term disaster for the Tories if they were to lose the seat in a general election.

As 2001 showed that the Liberal Democrat support has waned, it has become very unlikely that the Tories will lose the seat again in the near future, particularly considering their performance in recent local elections.
