Constituency profile

There has been a major debate over whether Milton Keynes should be allowed to grow by another 60,000 to 80,000 homes over the next 20 years.

ollowing pressure from the Government, which has wanted more than 3,000 new homes a year in Buckinghamshire up to 2015, Milton Keynes has been designated as an area of future growth.

Most of the new development would be in the North East constituency.

Some of the housing will be achieved by increased housing density in the existing urban areas, the rest by new housing growth.

Debates continue on how the necessary physical and social infrastructure can be built in parallel with this development.

One issue is the preservation of existing village communities.

A 3,500-signature petition against plans for up to 167,000 new homes in Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire was handed to a government inquiry in March 2004.
