Constituency profile

This seat used to be considerably marginal but was then secured as one of the safest seats for the Labour Party in the East Midlands.

After his election, Parmjit Singh Gill claimed that the prime minister had lost the trust of the people over issues surrounding the war in Iraq.

Clearly Labour will be disappointed by this loss and Leicester South is a seat that they will hope to regain at the next possible opportunity.
