Hertford and Stortford
Constituency profile
To have lost almost 12,000 votes in little under ten years is a sign of how the Conservatives have suffered in recent years, and, while one can understand the swing to Labour in 1997, the fact that the Conservative majority was cut again in 2001 should be an issue of serious concern.
All three parties increased their share of the vote in 2001 and with an ever-declining turnout, it will be interesting to see if this is repeated in this election.
With the aid of some tactical voting by Liberal Democrat voters, this seat would almost certainly fall to Labour.
