Cities of London and Westminster
Constituency profile
1997 was probably the closest Labour will ever come to making what would have been a very unlikely gain.
Despite New Labour’s courting of big business, those voters with jobs in the City’s financial institutions are still natural Conservatives.
Combined with the presence of many wealthy West End residents and one of the strongest Tory supporting groups in the country (as demonstrated by the Conservative vote in neighbouring Kensington and Chelsea), this should ensure Mark Field’s future in Parliament for some time.
