Constituency profile

Labour-run Brent Council’s ‘loony left’ reputation in the 1980s and early 1990s must have been anathema to Brent North’s home and business-owning classes and probably explains why this was a safe Conservative seat right up until 1997.

The massive swing in support to Labour over the last two general elections is a reflection of the fact that the party has transformed its image locally as well as nationally.
