Almost anything could happen in Maidenhead now.

It is number 14 on the Liberal Democrats' target list, and they will be making a huge effort to add this seat to their home counties prizes like Guildford and Newbury, at the other end of Berkshire.

Kathy Newbound will stand again for the party.

But whether the Labour vote can be squeezed much more is open to question; and even the most modest of Tory revivals could consign the whole episode to history.

The loss of this seat would signal a major setback for the Conservatives.
