John Hume once argued that in a choice between the interests of the party versus peace, peace would always come first.

The SDLP seem to have been making that sacrifice continually recently and while the SDLP majority looks to be holding up here, the closeness of the first preference poll in 2003 suggests that a Sinn Fein win here is no longer unthinkable.
