LOCAL COMMUNITY PRESENT PETITIONS TO SAVE POST OFFICES

Tony Baldry MP to lead delegation to Downing Street

North Oxfordshire MP, Tony Baldry, will lead a delegation to present hundreds of petitions supporting Grimsbury and Orchard Way Post Offices in Banbury.

Both Post Offices will be axed under the Government's closure programme.  Post Offices in Bicester are under also threat.  Over 50,000 people in Oxfordshire have post office card accounts.

Tony Baldry will present the petition to Number 10 together with local Councillors, Ann Bonner and Margaret Cullip, and Grimsbury Resident Association chair, Benita Lee, on Monday 3 March 2008, at 10.30am.

Tony Baldry will also present the petitions to Parliament, on Monday and Tuesday evening.

Commenting, Tony Baldry MP said:

"Grimsbury and Orchard Way vital high street services.  Closing post offices is another attack on our communities - they are a vital service for the elderly, mothers with young children, and those on benefits.  With local health services also under threat, people are right to ask: what will this Government shut next?"
