LOCAL MP CALLS FOR FAIR POLICE PAY

Tony Baldry campaigns for better pay for hard working local Police Officers

North Oxfordshire MP, Tony Baldry, has signed a cross party motion calling on the Government to improve pay for police officers.

The widely supported campaign recognises the hard work and bravery of the police and commends police officers for adapting to meet the diverse challenges asked of them.

The police force has been put under greater pressure in recent years. From the fight against crime and the implementation of community policing to the fight against terrorism and natural emergencies such as flooding, the Police Officer's job criteria has expanded dramatically.

Police Officers in the Thames Valley area are already placed under heavy financial strain, with many experienced officers choosing to relocate to London where they receive cost of living benefits.

Tony Baldry MP said:

“Police officers have had their role increased dramatically in North Oxfordshire. It is important that the Government rewards the hard work they have undertaken and the achievements they have made.  Being a police officer is very difficult, their pay does little to reflect the daily dangers they face, and the fact they are accountable for their actions both on duty and off duty and are prohibited from taking legal action makes their work even more taxing.  I fully support any good plans to give police officers the pay they deserve.”
