Godsiff Calls For More Aid, Faster And Now!!
Birmingham MP, Roger Godsiff, today called on the Government to dramatically increase both the amount and speed of relief aid to earthquake victims in both Pakistan and India.
Speaking from his constituency of Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath Mr Godsiff said: “With the scale of this human catastrophe now unfolding and rising casualties of dead and injured running into the tens of thousands I will be calling on the Government to dramatically increase its commitment of money and resources. I will also be calling on Birmingham City Council to set up and administer a relief fund to channel relief contributions raised locally.”
Mr Godsiff went on to say: “I believe that this is the only way to avoid the experience of the recent Tsunami when right at the outset it was too little and too late, the aid was just not there when people really needed it. Even our own Government was embarrassed into increasing its contribution when the scale of the disaster and the public’s generosity surpassed its own and that cannot be allowed to happen again.”
Mr Godsiff also expressed his sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of both the dead and injured.
