Awards Go To Best Entries For Xmas Card Design Competition 2004 – Hodge

Margaret Hodge acknowledged the efforts of over 1,700 children in Barking who entered the competition she runs to design the Christmas Card she sends to her friends and colleagues this year.

Mrs Hodge was speaking at her Annual Award Ceremony in Eastbury House which was attended by 26 children and their families last Friday.

Aaron Berry, aged 8 from Dorothy Barley School was the overall winner and took home a combined tape player/camera, McDonald’s Meal Voucher, CD player, Merlin VIP Gold Card (for free entry for up to 4 people to the London Dungeon and other attractions for a year) together with a family voucher for Madame Tussauds.

Mrs Hodge said:

“Once again, I have been overwhelmed with the response. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the children who entered, and the parents and teachers who put in so much effort to support the competition.”

“This is the third year I have run the competition, and my office reckons we receive more entries than any other MP’s office in Parliament. So it’s really wonderful.”

Mrs Hodge also thanked the people who’d help sponsor the competition: Mr John Harris, Chairman of Alba, the Barking & Dagenham Post, Welbeck Steel, Babs Somji, Manager of McDonalds in Barking, David Bassingwaithe and the ASDA store in Barking, VUE Cinema at Goresbrook Leisure Centre, and Ann Butcher, Regional Director of Lloyds TSB.

Mrs Hodge also thanked the people who’d shortlisted the entries: Dave Russell, Editor of the Barking & Dagenham Post, Eamonn McMahon, Branch Manager of Lloyds TSB in Barking, Lorraine Billingsley from the Education Department at the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham & Cllr Jeanne Alexander.
