Hodge supports ‘Take our daughters to work day’

Margaret Hodge MP for Barking has given her support to ‘Take our daughters to work’ day on Thursday 18 March 2004.

Mrs Hodge commented:

“Three-quarters of working women are still found in just five occupational groups. These jobs are still seen as ‘women’s work’, like nursing, secretarial work, child care and cleaning. Women also receive lower pay for the jobs they do than male-dominated jobs, even when they require a similar level of qualifications.

“A recent survey showed that on average men in full-time work are paid £86.43 a week more than their female colleagues.

“ ‘Take our daughters to work’ day is a great opportunity for girls to find out about different careers such as engineering, mechanics and finance and encourage them to consider all their options.”
