Dear Mr Posner
Thank you very much for sending me your manifesto for the bus industry, entitled, 'Better Buses'.
I am extremely disturbed to see no mention in this manifesto ofnecessaryimprovements to safety. Recent train and bus crashes have shown theimportance of having seat belts available for passengers in publictransport, just as they are mandatory in private transport. It has alsoshown the importance of having proper anti roll bar facilities fitted tocoaches and buses to provide a sufficiently rigid structure in the eventof the vehicle toppling over.
I would be most grateful to know what actions you propose to take toensure that in future, all buses are properly protected so thatpassengershave a good chance of escaping without serious injury, in the event ofthebus turning over.
Yours sincerely
John Redwood
