One of the many reasons why Essex is a special place is that we have a very proud history of volunteering and helping others both through charitable giving and a vibrant voluntary sector – one example being the £25,000 raised last year by 30 charities at the annual Fun Walk held at Barleylands Farm.

There is also a proud tradition of independence and ‘speaking one’s mind’ and yet respect if views differ – very helpful if you’re the local MP!
