Post Office Ltd Must Listen to Concerns – Foster
As Postwatch, the independent watchdog for the postal service, submitted its final report on the Bristol & Somerset Area Plan, Bath MP Don Foster called on the Post Office Ltd to listen to the continuing concerns over proposed closure of post offices in Bath, in particular the effect Bath Western Riverside will have.
Commenting, Don said, “I am pleased to see that Postwatch have highlighted the proximity of Bath Western Riverside to the already busy Lower Weston post office and have called upon Post Office Ltd to justify their position.
“Given that we know Post Office Ltd failed to include Bath Western Riverside when formulating their original plan, it is difficult to know how they would plan to justify this closure. Post Office Ltd must hold its hands up and admit they have made a mistake on this one. If not the people of Bath will be left to question if the consultation process has any meaning at all.”
Postwatch also highlighted the effect Lower Weston and Bear Flat closing would have on the alternative in Moorland Road, and also the issues arising where the alternatives were not served by a direct public transport link. In April Don showed how difficult the journey from Lower Weston to Weston village would be by walking the route with local residents.
