Bus Route 29 is here to Stay!
7th February 2006
Further to reports and rumours that bus route number 29 that goes through Belfairs into Southend was going to be axed, David Amess MP can today confirm that this is not the case and that this bus service is here to stay.
Kevin Hawkins, Commercial Director at Arriva Buses said today,
‘This is not something we have even been considering. I am not sure where such information came from but I can confirm that bus 29 in Southend is not being withdrawn by Arriva.’
This certainly comes as good news, especially to the residents of Belfairs that have already seen the bus services cut dramatically in their area, hence the public protest that was organised outside the Post Office on 19th December 2005 to which David Amess MP was present.
Commenting on this news today David said,
‘I was very pleased to receive this statement from Arriva today. It is very good news that route 29 is not going to be withdrawn however, I am continuing in my endeavour to restore the services that were cut when Southend Borough Council were forced to withdraw their subsidies and hope to be able to bring my constituents some good news on this issue soon.’
