MP CELEBRATES SPORTS MATCH FUNDING FOR RUGBY IN WESTCLIFF
On Saturday 16th December 2006, David Amess MP (Southend West) was present at Westcliff Rugby Football Club to present the money awarded to the club by Sports Match to the businesses that will be working to bring more rugby to young people in the local community.
Westcliff Rugby Club has come together with Flightline and Kilmeadon Plant Hire to help promote the importance of sport in schools in Southend, to increase the number of girls playing rugby and assist with training and coaching in schools.
This grant will enable Westcliff Rugby Club to extend the development plans that they were already putting in place with the full support of David Amess MP, Southend Council, the Essex County Rugby Football Club and several local schools.
After presenting the Sports Match funding award David Amess MP said,
‘Westcliff Rugby Football Club already does so much to promote the sport among young people and especially girls in the area. This grant, with the help of the commercial sponsors, will enable the club to expand the extent to which they work with local schools to encourage more children into the sport. I would like to congratulate Chris Sharples and everyone at the club on their efforts and I look forward to working with them again in the future.’
