Crispin blunt secures debate on Hospital Deficit
“It is time to write off the debt” says Reigate MP
Crispin Blunt, MP for Reigate, has secured a debate on Tuesday 15th January in Westminster Hall on East Surrey Hospital’s financial situation. The half hour debate beginning at 1230pm will give Mr Blunt the opportunity to set out his views on the ongoing financial situation at the Hospital. A minister from the department of health will then have to reply on behalf the Government.
Speaking on earlier today Mr Blunt said: “Since 1998 the financial settlement for East Surrey Hospital has been the victim of government interference. The current deficit is over £55 million, the largest of any trust in the country. It was politically motivated interference in 2001 that contributed to this parlous state of affairs and I will be calling on the Government to take responsibility and write off the debt. Only this can give the Trust the financial footing on which it can begin to rebuild its quality of service and its reputation.”
