WHITEHEAD WELCOMES CCTV FOR PENSIONER BLOCK
Dr Alan Whitehead, Member of Parliament for Southampton Test, has welcomed the news that new CCTV will be installed for the Willow Court pensioner block in Coxford on May 1st.
Residents from Willow Court had put in a request to have CCTV installed around their block, due to concerns about loitering in the area and two recent burglaries. After residents had not heard anything back from the Council, they got in contact with local Councillor Don Thomas and Alan Whitehead MP, who agreed to chase up the request.
After Dr Whitehead and Cllr Thomas got in contact with the relevant officers, the Council confirmed that the residents’ application for CCTV had been successful and the cameras would be installed on May 1st.
Alan Whitehead MP said:
“CCTV has been proven to make a real difference to levels of vandalism in other parts of Southampton. It is right that we invest in providing such measures when residents ask for them, and Willow Court is just one area that will now see the benefits.”
Don Thomas said:
“Since being elected last year I’ve found that many residents don’t know that they have a right to contact the Council to request CCTV or other measures to improve their local area. That’s why it’s so important that places like Coxford get more Councillors who have lived locally and can help residents get what they are entitled to.”
