On February 6 2007 Baroness Thornton (Lab) introduced the Television Advertising (Food) Bill to the House of Lords for its first reading. The Bill would ban the advertising of certain food products between 5am and 9pm, between those hours it would be prohibited to advertise food products unless it meets a certain nutritional standard specified by the Food Standards Agency based on salt, sugar and fat content.

Baroness Thornton said; “I am delighted to introduce this bill which, if passed, will make a substantial contribution towards improving children’s health, and stopping the childhood obesity epidemic.”
