Control of Identification Documents (Offences) Bill (Failed Bill 2004/05 Session)
The Bill sought to stop people holding another person's passports or other ID papers with the intent of criminal activity.
The Bill applied particularly to documents such as passports, immigration papers and driving licences, and to any official document that is necessary for someone to establish their identity.
The Bill also sought to amend rules relating to the rights of foreign diplomats in this country, so that they, too, would be covered by the offence.
