Telecommunications Masts (Planning Control) Bill (Failed Bill 2004/05 Session)

A private members Bill introduced by Andrew Stunell (Lib Dem, Hazel Grove), introducing a “precautionary principle” to show where the most intense beam of radiation would fall, giving local authorities more power to refuse mast applications.

The Bill aimed to give extra protection to schools, hospitals and residential homes, from high levels of radiation from all telecom masts.

Stunell emphasised the importance of the Bill, stating: “The Government have backed out of repeated promises to change the planning laws. This Bill is long overdue and has cross-party support.”

Stunell’s Bill aimed to bring all masts, regardless of height, under full control.
