Welsh Bowlers Strike At The Top

8th December 2005

On Saturday 26th November British Blind Sports held their Summer Pairs Final at the Mega Bowl, Swindon.  Two Welsh Teams consisting of Steve Green, Keith Williams (Cymraeg Comrades), Diana Evans and Gillian McCarthy (Duelling Dragons) made it through to the finals at Swindon.

Some of the top Blind and Partially Sighted bowlers from across the UK gathered for the battle to become Summer Pairs Champions and individual rankings for 2005/ 2006.  It was an intense battle by all although everyone enjoyed every minute.  No one had any idea of how they had done, as results were kept hidden until the awards dinner that evening.

As results was announced baited breath was taken by the Welsh Teams and overwhelming delight as the results were revealed as following for the Welsh Teams-

Cymraeg Comrades - Ranked 2nd
Duelling Dragons - Ranked 4th

But this was not all further delight was had especially for two of the bowlers as further results was announced -

Gillian McCarthy - Ranked Number 1 in the B4 category.
Steve Green - Ranked Number 1 in the B1 category.

RNIB Cymru would like to congratulate them for their success.  This was a huge success for the Welsh Bowlers and hopefully this will show motivation for others to take up the sport.  The two teams are part of two clubs that Steve runs at the Bowlplex, Parc Nantgarw, Nr Caerphilly.  A big thank you from the Welsh Teams to all the staff at Bowlplex for their support and a very big thank you to Ken Kelly and his colleagues on the British Blind Sports Tenpin Bowling Committee for a great weekend at Swindon.
