Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB)

Listening role for new Director

19 September 2005

Ruth Marks has taken up the post of Director of RNIB Cymru, the country's leading charity working with blind and partially sighted people.

Speaking of her appointment, Ruth said:  “I am delighted to join RNIB.  I am looking forward to working with the team, members and partners to improve opportunities and services for people who are blind and partially sighted across Wales.  RNIB Cymru has a successful track record of delivering excellent services and communicating effectively.  I plan to work in partnership to build on this success, listening to the different needs and aspirations that exist, ensuring that RNIB continues to deliver its objectives in Wales and develops appropriate new areas of work in the future.”

Ruth Marks’ appointment has been welcomed by Billy Watson, RNIB's Group Director, Devolved Services: "I am delighted that Ruth Marks has joined RNIB Cymru. She brings with her a wide range of experience and expertise which will be invaluable as we seek to expand our innovative services and enhance our campaigning on behalf of blind and partially sighted people in Wales."

One of Ruth’s first priorities will be meeting RNIB Cymru members in the first of four membership forums in Cardiff.  The theme of this meeting will be accessible homes and products.  It will take place in the Norwegian Church from 11.00am – 2.15pm.
