Save to Learn- Guidance on tackling bullying including homophobic bullying
Commenting on the Governments guidelines on bullying Steve Sinnott, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers the UK’s largest teaching union said:
"Bullying destroys lives; whether they are children’s or teacher’s.
" ‘Safe to Learn’ is a welcome message which will reinforce teacher’s efforts to stamp out bullying in schools and remind parents of the crucial role they have in preventing it.
"It is in the interests of all schools that bullying becomes a thing of the past. A bullying school is a failing school. ‘Safe to Learn’ should not be ignored.
"This is the first time that such clear and in- depth guidance on homophobic bullying has been published.
"Homophobic bullying is the favourite weapon of bullies who pick on pupils who appear different or vulnerable.
"Good experienced teachers can be driven out of the profession by homophobic taunts.
"This guidance should not be left to gather dust on shelves".
