Denbigh High School appeal to the House of Lords on wearing jilbab

Steve Sinnott General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, Europe’s largest union said.

“I welcome the clarity of the House of Lords judgment, but this case should never have come to court.

“Prior to this judgment schools have had no guidance from Government on school uniform and religious beliefs, which is why the National Union of Teachers has had to publish its own.

“I urge the Government to now publish guidance after full consultation with parents, school communities and all teacher organisations. It is vital that something as sensitive as the issue of religious belief and school uniform should not be the subject of further legal proceedings”.
