Established in 1921, The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) is the national voluntary trade body of the nation's community pharmacists - representing over 4,500 community pharmacy owners who collectively own 11,000 community pharmacies. Since 1921, the Association has considerably expanded its remit and services, while remaining true to its original brief of providing a vital, credible and collective professional and business voice for the community pharmacy profession. Our aim is to translate policy into actions that have a real impact on improving the profile, professionalism and effectiveness of our members and pharmacy in general.
Our vision
As the stewards of community pharmacy in the UK, our objectives are threefold:
- To be the most authoritative voice and influential advocate for community pharmacy and to champion the interest of pharmacy proprietors
- To promote, improve and protect an essential public service - the community pharmacy
- To be a sound, responsive trade body, ensuring the professional and commercial prosperity of its members.
The effectiveness of the NPA is driven by our core commitment to help our members. We listen to our members' concerns and act on them.
As a result, the NPA is in continual contact with Ministers, Government departments, members of both Houses of Parliament in Westminster, in the Scottish Parliament and the national assemblies of Wales and Northern Ireland, and with many influential bodies and opinion formers. Through these contacts and through the media, the collective views of the NPA, its members and the community pharmacy profession are promoted.
Representation
Chief Executive, John D'Arcy, and the NPA team are active in the arena of advocacy and representation. Through their wide ranging advocacy efforts in public - to politicians, opinion formers, the media, and other healthcare professionals and organisations - they act as influential lobbyists and representatives for community pharmacy. We are politically impartial - and liase and work with all political parties - locally and nationally - for the benefit of pharmacists, patients and the public.
