Business unveils manifesto for the next London Mayor
01 January 2008
London’s business community has today outlined its priorities for London from the next Mayor.
In a three-part manifesto, London First, the business organisation representing over 300 of the capital’s largest employers, lays out what measures the next London Mayor should introduce and champion in the coming term, as well as a list of pledges to which the business community will sign up in return.
Baroness Jo Valentine, Chief Executive of London First said:
“London First has long been an advocate for a strong Mayor to offer dynamic, effective leadership for a world class city. Business in London looks to the Mayor to provide the right environment in which to live, work and do business.
“The Mayor must ensure the capital is able to keep pace with economic and population growth. That means improving capacity and performance of the transport network, supporting new office and housing development and equipping Londoners with the relevant skills to win the available jobs. Finally, they need to press Government to commit and invest in East London up to and beyond 2012.
“Our Manifesto for the Next Mayor lists our priorities to help London remain a leading world city. We urge all Mayoral contenders to make these their priorities in the race for election in May 2008.”
