The Licensed Association of Door Supervisors and Security Staff (LADS UK) is bringing a new professionalism to the industry. The Association provides services throughout the UK, including accredited training courses insurance, news updates, and a 24 hour support network staffed by qualified lawyers and trauma counsellors.

The introduction of the SIA's regulations requiring private security staff working under contract to be licensed has been welcomes by LADS UK as a much needed change to working practices. The Association is keen to adopt a 'partnership approach' with other agencies and facilitate a dialogue between their members and decision makers at government level, local bodies such as town councils, and, importantly, the police. With wide ranging experience of the security industry from 'ground level' to management, LADS UK's staff have access to an extensive knowledge base, which they are keen to share with interested parties.

The Association recognises that delineation of roles between their members and the police is essential, but they support the idea that a fully trained private security staff can play a significant part in crime prevention and reduction. Members are encouraged therefore to continue their training into advanced areas such as preservation of forensic evidence, civil and criminal law, and risk assessment.
