14 September 2005
Stand up for the Homeless - Horatio’s Bar on Brighton Pier at 9pm on Monday, 26 September 2005
Stand up for the Homeless will be a fabulous comedy cabaret night bringing together top comedy stars and homeless people in aid of homelessness charities Homeless Link and Crisis.
Taking place at Horatio’s Bar on Brighton Pier at 9pm on Monday, 26 September, the event will coincide with the Labour Party conference. The event will raise the profile of the charities’ message asking the government to commit to the goal of ending homelessness.
Top comedy stars Arthur Smith and John Lenahan will star along with acts by homeless people including Cardboard Citizens and Streetwise Opera. A poster designed and signed by the ‘Godfather of pop art’ Richard Hamilton will be auctioned from the stage and there will be a raffle with fabulous prizes sponsored by Virgin.
Jenny Edwards, Homeless Link’s chief executive, said:
‘Homelessness is no laughing matter. But this event will help us raise the issue for delegates at the Labour Party conference and showcase the talents of homeless people alongside top comedy performers. We hope that delegates and other supporters will have a great night out and will help build the political will to end homelessness once and for all.’
The event has the support of Brighton Pier management, who have donated the venue and prizes for the raffle.
Tickets for the event are available for £15 from Stargreen on 0207 734 8932.
