Remote Gambling covers gambling platforms that can be accessed from a remote location. The most popular form of remote gambling is through the Internet, where there is estimated to be over 1700 sites. More recently Interactive television has become a popular platform, and more gambling opportunities are becoming available through the mobile phone.

Remote gambling is one of the fastest developing sections of the gambling industry, both in terms of amount of sites available and introduction of new games and products. There is however a level of concern regarding the new potential dangers that remote gambling could hold for the vulnerable and underage.

Codes of Conduct

GamCare has been closely involved in the development of Codes of Conduct. for social responsibility within the remote gambling industry, and is currently working with several operators to advise on the implementation of these codes. GamCare has advised or worked with the following groups regarding the creation of effective codes of conduct for Remote Gambling:

  • Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
  • Gaming Board of Great Britain
  • IGGBA (Interactive Gambling, Gaming and Betting Association)
  • Sky
  • Individual Gambling Operators
