ASDA Worker Sacked For Having Her Own £3 In Her Pocket On The Shop Floor - GMB Demands She Is Reinstated

14 December 2005

GMB is demanding the immediate reinstatement of ASDA worker Fran Edwards following her summary dismissal for having £3 in change in her pocket while on the shop floor earlier this month.

GMB member Fran Edwards has worked at the Yarmouth ASDA store for two years. She will be represented at an appeal hearing on Thursday (15th December 2005) at the Norwich ASDA George Store.

GMB will hold a mass meeting on Thursday (15th) evening at the Yarmouth Labour club, Euston Road, Great Yarmouth of GMB members living and working in the area following the appeal hearing to discuss the outcome.

Glenn Holdom, GMB Organiser representing Fran Edwards said, “ASDA had instructed staff to leave personal money in their lockers but ASDA have been unable to keep staff property in the lockers safe and there have broken into and staff’s belonging taken recently.

Many GMB members in Norfolk and Suffolk shop at ASDA and have for a long time been shocked at the treatment metered out to ASDA employees and fellow GMB members there. East Anglia is not the place for the Wal-Mart style management which treats employees as disposable assets instead of caring about them as people.”
