Press Release
Sofra Restaurant Demonstration Wednesday 14th September
The GMB, which has around 90 members based across Sofra's six London restaurants, is campaigning on behalf of workers for a fairer service tip system. At the moment tips go to the employer, and only a small portion is reimbursed to the restaurant staff.
The union also says that workers, who have never received a contract before, are now being pressurised to sign contracts that they are unhappy with. Some workers' hours have been reduced without proper consultation. Despite continued efforts by the union, the restaurant chain's owner, Huseyin Ozer, has not been available to speak with the GMB.
