More affordable homes on target for Telford
15 December 2005
National regeneration agency English Partnerships and its development partners are seeking an affordable housing provider to join them in delivering one of England’s largest new communities, at Lawley in Telford.
George Wimpey, Barratt Homes, Persimmon Homes along with English Partnerships are the development partners on this scheme that will bring 3,300 new homes to Telford, providing 20 per cent of the town’s new housing requirement over the next 10 years.
Now the search is on for another team member to deliver 825 affordable homes, of which just over half (52 per cent) will be social rented with the remainder being shared ownership homes.
The Lawley vision was developed through an Enquiry by Design process, which helped shape the scheme’s design codes. These design codes require that affordable units will be "pepper-potted" or built in small groups, throughout the scheme. They will be of an equally high standard in terms of appearance and specification as their private sale neighbours.
Lucy Allwood, Project Manager for English Partnerships, said, “We are working with some of the country’s most prestigious volume housebuilders on Lawley and are looking forward to selecting an affordable housing provider of a similar calibre, who is able to demonstrate the long-term commitment needed for a project of this scale.”
English Partnerships and its development partners intend to appoint an affordable housing provider in Spring 2006. A particulars document is now available inviting expressions of interest from prospective partners.
