Welcome to ChildLine's dedicated policy and campaigns website.
 ChildLine has been in existence for nearly 18 years. During this time we have provided help, advice, support and protection to over 1.5 million children and young people throughout the UK. Today there is no doubt about the need for ChildLine.
Our mission is to offer help to all children and young people who seek it from us, whatever their concerns, by providing a free 24-hour telephone helpline. We are also committed to working with the decision-makers to create policies that will improve the lives of children throughout the UK.

ChildLine at a glance
- Since our launch in 1986, ChildLine has counselled over 1.5 million children and young people
- Almost one in five of the calls we receive is about abuse
- Every day over 400 children receive in-depth counselling
- ChildLine has over 1,000 volunteer counsellors
- We hear from many children and young people who call or write to thank their counsellors for making a difference in their lives
- Last year over 1,500 children and young people were referred to other helping agencies, such as the ambulance service, police or social services
- ChildLine has ten counselling centres around the UK
- Only 10% of the total income ChildLine needs to raise each year comes from statutory funding.
