Policy-making at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has a Policy Unit which is responsible for the development of CIEH policy and practice in all areas of environmental health. Specialist policy officers cover the following areas:
- Environmental protection
- Housing
- Food safety
- Health and safety at work
- Public health
- Local government / better regulation
The work of the Policy Unit includes the following:
- Developing and representing policy and practice to external agencies, including government
- Lobbying regional assemblies, regional agencies, and national and local government for improvements in health legislation and policies
- Responding to consultation documents on behalf of the profession
- Promoting environmental health at European and international levels
- Liaising with other professional bodies and non-governmental organisations
- Providing speakers for conferences and seminars
- Giving media interviews and running public awareness campaigns
