About BEDA

BEDA - Bar Entertainment & Dance Association

Overview

Night clubBEDA represents late night entertainment operators across the UK - working with central and local government and the police to secure a better trading environment for our members. Established in 1952, BEDA has secured a number of notable wins for clubs and bars on music licensing, trading hours, drugs policy and door supervisor regulation. BEDA also fights to overturn ill thought through proposals such as a blanket bottle ban or draconian drugs policy.

BEDA members work in a heavily regulated sector with a constant flow of policy proposals from Government, the police and councils. BEDA works on your behalf to ensure these proposals provide for the best possible outcome for bars and clubs. Nationally, BEDA sits on Government groups dealing with licensing reform, alcohol related disorder, door supervisor regulation and drugs policy. While we are increasingly drawn in to partnership with individual police forces and councils to develop safer town and city centres.

BEDA membership gives operators access to a wealth of support and experience across the gamut of operational and regulatory issues from licence conditions to noise issues, smoking to employment. Members also receive NIGHT magazine (the number one trade mag) and the BEDA White Disc (pre-release dance tracks) free of charge.

Operational

Across BEDA you will find experts on all manner of operational matters. Members are able to draw on that expertise when seeking to comply with the raft of health and safety legislation, licence conditions and police initiatives that affect their ability to do business. BEDA offers a formal and informal consultancy service to members working with them to improve their operation.

Benefits

In addition to the political, legal and operational support, members also receive regular mailings from BEDA. NIGHT magazine is the industry's leading trade publication offering a monthly digest of club openings, new product information and the latest industry news. The White Disc is a promo CD, mailed fortnightly free of charge to the resident DJ at BEDA member venues. White Disc has proved to be an essential tool for any DJ and has pioneered many new hits.

Insurance

In response to rising premiums and increasing uncertainty of cover, BEDA has developed a members only insurance scheme. Through the scheme, BEDA venues that can demonstrate compliance with a code of practice are able to access insurance cover at discounted rates. The scheme is based on a core of socially responsible operation and has already save BEDA members £1000s.

Events

The annual BEDA Awards are rightly considered to be the premier social event for club and bar operators. Bringing together managers, owners, suppliers and promoters to celebrate the finest venues in the UK. BEDA also holds a number of other events throughout the year from formal seminars to purely social events such as the BEDA Bar Tour.
