The Treasury select committee’s hearing into fee-charging cash machines has highlighted the lack of consistency and clarity in warning customers about charges.

Consumers need clear information to be able to make informed choices when withdrawing money from cash machines and generally the industry is not meeting this requirement.

Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman, said: "With the ever-increasing burden of personal debt, cash machine charging is hitting the poorest hardest.
