Children's mental health
The government has pledged fundamental reform of children's mental health services after the Guardian newspaper published evidence of a sharp increase in emotional and behavioural problems among teenagers.
Health secretary John Reid will announce plans to provide 24-hour access to psychiatric services for the seriously disturbed and more help for troubled children through schools and local authorities.
Stakeholder Response: ChildLine
Natasha Finlayson, director of policy and communications, said: "ChildLine hears from thousands of young people every year with a wide range of problems affecting their mental wellbeing, including bullying, family tensions and exam stress, that are causing them to feel depressed, excluded and in need of help. Young people choose to call ChildLine to talk about these difficulties in their lives because the helpline service is simple to access, 24-hour and, crucially, confidential.
