Nearly two thirds of UK employers who had not closed final salary pension schemes to new members two years ago have chosen to retain them in some form, according to a survey released this week.

A spokesman for the CIPD said: "We welcome these findings that show employers are taking a more considered approach to their occupational pension schemes.

 

"CIPD has long campaigned for employers to establish the business need for why they should contribute to the pension arrangements of their workers and then decide which type of pension scheme best meets the needs of both the company and its staff. 

 

"In the past, there has been an unthinking rush from defined benefit (DB) schemes to defined contribution (DC) plans. Yet there are alternatives.
