Forum Brief: Stem cell bank

The world's first stem cell bank has been opened in the UK by the government.

Suzi Leather, HFEA chair said: “Human embryo research is strictly regulated in the UK. Parliament has provided the framework in which human embryo research can take place and the HFEA looks very carefully at the scientific, ethical and medical issues before granting a licence.”

Forum Response: The Stroke Association

A spokesman for the Stroke Association said: "The Stroke Association is currently engaged in a project investigating the use of adult bone marrow stem cells to repair damaged brain tissue caused by stroke. We fully support any further developments in this specific field of stem cell research which may help stroke patients receive better treatment in the future."
