An examination of 109 masts located near to schools and hospitals found emissions to be far below international guidelines.

Forum Response: Institution of Electrical Engineers

A spokesman for the IEE told ePolitix.com: "The IEE notes with interest the government's DTI announcement concerning the Radio Communications Agency measured levels of mobile phone radiation emissions near hospitals and schools being at least several hundred times lower than the guidance safe levels set by the International Commission on non-ionising radiation protection.

"The IEE has had a working party examining the biological effects of electromagnetic fields for many years and its view is that the current scientific evidence does not demonstrate hazard to human health due to the signals from mobile phone base stations at these levels."
